Hailey said: "Metformin is used when diet and exercise to prevent diabetes in people who are overweight. Glucophage should be taken with meals. Glucophage does not increase the body's production of insulin. Insulin and the cells of the body are resistant to the low levels of insulin circulating in the blood."
