Hydrochlorothiazide as a diuretic:
Hydrochlorothiazide can decrease the amount of potassium in the blood. Although there are no adequate and well-controlled studies using hydrochlorothiazide in pregnancy, thiazide diuretics may cause an increased risk of congenital defects. Hydrochlorothiazide may increase blood glucose levels. Hydrochlorothiazide is often used to treat high blood pressure.
